Photo Diary: Back To Gaming w Bonus Story

I’ve decided to come on here and make a post since I’m pretty sure I’ve already neglected my New Year’s Resolution to post something once every two weeks. I think it’s week 3 since I’ve posted something last. But that’s okay, because I haven’t been up to anything interesting, so I don’t want to forcefully talk about… nothing.
I guess it’s not entirely true that I haven’t been up to anything. I’m back to work, which I love of course. And then there’s the thing I’ve been hinting at on Twitter and in recent posts. I guess I’ll just go ahead and say it’s about buying a house. I just didn’t want to make a whole post about it until it’s official. There’s been a lot of ups and downs there, and I’ve been actually writing the post as it goes on. Once it is official, that post will go live, and if nothing comes of it I’ll discard it completely.

This is gonna be a bit of a two for one post because I have a photo I wanted to share that has a bit of a story behind it.

I took this photo when inspiration hit me… when I was nowhere near my camera.IMG_20160205_214934

In addition, what I wanted to talk about today is, GAMING! If you’ve been here for awhile you’d know that I’m a bit of a casual gamer. I really love it but I feel that I seldom have the time to commit to games hardcore. It’s probably going to always be that way, but I play when I can and that’s fine with me.

It’s been a couple years since I’ve joined a D&D campaign even though there’s ALWAYS one going on in my group of friends. I honestly can’t think of a time when there wasn’t a game happening since I started hanging out with them.

The last game I played, I bowed out because I played a character that had a very specific backstory thinking it would fit. The character was Jessamine and the game was evolving in such a way where her story line simply didn’t mesh with the game’s.

Since then, I’d been toying with joining again but never really wanted to commit to it. Then one of my friends from a different social circle said he was starting a campaign: zero commitment. Roll a character, show up when you feel, the game will go on just fine if you don’t show. Perfect for my life. So I joined.
We’re playing 5th edition (my usual circle plays.. 3rd? Or statless.) and I decided to be a ranger. It’s been too long since I’ve played anything, so I wanted to stay in my comfort zone… and archers are my bread and butter.

It was a bit of a gateway game because now I want to join one of the games that my usual circle is playing again. I’m going to try Jessamine again, because I think it should work this time. It’s statless so it’ll be a bit easier to mold everything together.

My roomie has been playing her Pokemon: Heart Gold a lot recently too, which made me pick Pokemon: Y back up.  I saw in my old “Gamerz Corner” posts that I was going to do a Pokemon Adventures segment while I was playing White, where I update you where I am and what I’m doing in the game. I never did that, and I don’t know if I will. I never even finished White, if I’m being perfectly honest. It’s been disgustingly long time since I’ve finished a game of Pokemon… probably not since I’ve played the original Silver. 😦
I’m pretty determined to finish Y, because I really like it!  I’ll leave the rest up to you: if a lot of people like this, I’ll try and work some sort of gaming segment into my posts more often. If not, I’m just gonna go about my merry gaming ways on my own, which is fine too.

So, my gaming readers: what are you currently playing? What video game are you loving right now? Are you in any awesome D&D campaigns? 🙂

Getting Caught Up on Pokemon

Pokemon has definitely been a huge part of my life since I was young.  Between my sister and I we have all the games! So when I realize that I haven’t touched Pokemon White since I got it for Christmas the year it came out… well, something has to be done about that!

In my group of friends, Pokemon X/Y  has been a super hot topic. But I don’t have a 3DS and can’t afford one right now. So I can’t play it.  To get my Pokemon fix I will be starting my White adventure and I will blog my process! Yay! So I introduce to you my first segment of Gamerz Corner:

Pokemon White Adventures.

I also may or may not be joining a Pokemon tabletop game, and will probably talk about that  here and there.

Anyway, it’s possible I’ll be starting my adventure tonight which means I’ll post a blog sometime within the next couple of days.

Oh, and unrelated blog update: my favorite show on TV right now, How I Met Your Mother is wrapping up next Monday. I really want to do a live tweet about it (@softlysaturated) but I don’t know if I can yet. I’ll do a post with details though.

Stay tuned.

Wow, I Suck at This

This whole moving out and doing grown up things has really made me bad at keeping up with my blog. I promise I am putting together recipes for my next post. But I feel like I keep going too long between posts. So, in the meantime, here’s my roomie’s new cat trying to catch the blinking light on my laptop. Because he’s a nutball.

And I was in a few of my friend’s Diablo streams that I was talking about. I’m going to add the link to his stream as a dropdown option on Gamerz Corner until he starts uploading them to YouTube. Then I’ll be embedding them here.

Food & Games!

Well, I have a few ideas and updates and what not.

One thing, I’ve been informed that my friend who does the gaming streams does his streams on Wednesday and Thursday. So if you’ve been wanting to tune in those are the days to do it. It’ll usually start anywhere between 5-7pm (central) and go until whenever he feels like going. Then once in awhile there will be random streams that he’ll decide to do which I can inform you of if you follow my Twitter.
His Channel Here.

Next, some recipes. I wanted to start adding recipes pretty often now that James and I have been cooking more often.  The next Om Nom Hour segment I post will probably be a short collection of various chicken recipes. I don’t know exactly when I’ll be doing that but once I get them together I will.

SO yeah, just a quick update there. Gonna play some D3 now.

How I Became an Archer (In Gaming, Anyway)

One of my favorite memories of my first tabletop RPG comes to mind very often. It was a Wheel of Time campaign and we were in battle.  I was playing a ranger and something attacked me. My friend Dan, yelled “Hey, don’t fuck with our archer!” and kicked the shit out of whatever it was.  I’m usually the archer. That’s just what I’m comfortable with.

I was just reminded of how it all began.

I was reading a thread on Reddit about why people hate the hunter class in World of Warcraft. Someone pointed out that usually people who play hunters are not that good because it’s typically what guys will get their girlfriends to play because they can have a cute pet and they’re really easy to play. And I thought to myself… huh… that’s how I started playing. My boyfriend at the time was playing and told me about how hunters can have a pet. And I wanted a pet!  But since you have to get to level 10 before you can get one, I got hooked by then. Since then the class has been watered down a lot. In fact, you start with a pet automatically now, if memory serves me correctly. So, I can see how that’s probably more true now than it was before.

But now, archers are just kind of my staple. WoW was the first game I played seriously (besides Pokemon) and now every time I choose a character I tend to lean towards archers.
So yeah, just wanted to share a small background there.  Even though it was a total superficial reason, that’s what sparked my love for games. And even though I’d consider myself as more of a casual gamer, gaming still plays a huge role in my life. If it wasn’t for gaming I wouldn’t have the amazing friends I have now and I wouldn’t have James. ♥

I’ve been missing gaming a bit lately so I’m starting to get back into it. So hopefully you’ll see a bit more Gamerz Corner posts from now on. I don’t know what exactly to talk about. Perhaps screencaps of games I’m playing. I will be posting when my friend Matt streams whenever possible. You can check out his past broadcasts here. And maybe game reviews? I don’t know because I’m probably not experienced enough to talk about that? I’m sure I’ll figure out something to put in Gamerz Corner.

Whoa! Live Gaming!

So, I finally have something to put on my Gamerz Corner section. My friend started a channel on Twitch.tv and will be streaming games here and there.  He’s doing a hardcore run in Diablo 3 currently, if you want to check it out.

I’ll post whenever he streams, so if you’re interested in gaming check it out! It’s possible I’ll be gaming on there once in awhile too.

Also, you can hear James talking to me but you can’t hear me… but I think it adds extra amusement.

Other Snippets – Stuff I Like

Hey everyone.

As much as I like to blog, I love to read blogs as well. I like to collect and save things to read later.  So I have a few to share today.

I’ll start with the geeky one.  This is something I thought was super cute, being a huge Pokemon fan. This guy made up his own words to the Pokemon theme song as a marriage proposal to his girlfriend. He then pulled out a pokeball with a ring and said “I choose you, will you marry me?”
He posted his song lyrics in this article…
Some of you may know already but my name is Jessi and my boyfriend is James. And together we are Team Rocket. So this is simply fantastic to me!

Next some photography related stuff! Of course.

This one has a tutorial on how to make cinemagraphs. I LOVE these and I really want to make one. I’ve read this but haven’t evolved to following the steps just yet. One day I’ll make them. And I’ll show you!

How To Make Cinemagraphs

The next one is something Tiffany sent me. It has tips for self-portraits, particularly for outfit of the day shots and things like that. I’m super excited that I’ve picked up some tricks that I can use in my own photography. And I can definitely use the help with future Outfit of the Day posts!

Outfit Photo Tips

The next one is a post from a favorite charity of mine called “To Write Love on Her Arms” and it’s a photographer who jumped out of his comfort zone to get some truly stunning self-portraits! I love this because he showed me that even if you struggle with anxiety issues you can still achieve your goals! It’s definitely something I have a hard time with when it comes to photographing people. I’m always afraid to put myself out there because failure is a devastating idea to me. Sometimes it’s nice to know about people who are just like me.

On a similar note, it’s on to the introvert posts. I found a couple articles about people,  like myself, with introverted personalities. The first one is kind of about identifying yourself as an introvert.
23 Signs You’re Secretly an Introvert

And the other one is about common misconceptions about people with introverted personalities.
10 Myths About Introverts

I really liked these, especially the first one because I can completely relate to them. I felt that a very large percentage of things on that list of 23 applied to me. It’s pretty dead on, so check it out if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

Lastly I just have a few YouTube videos to show.  This first one is from Animalist. I first started watching because one of my favorite YouTubers, Catie Wayne, is a host on this channel. But I went through some of the older videos from before she started there. I was super interested in this one, which talks about that crazy song, What Does the Fox Say… and tells you what the fox legitimately says. I love it!

Last I wanted to share another one of my favorite YouTubers and that is grav3yardgirl. I’ve been watching a lot of her videos for the past few months and realized she has a similar taste in style to me. And after watching more and more of her videos I learned she started her channel because of anxiety issues and to give herself an outlet. So I love learning about clothes and make up from her and also getting that feeling that I’m not alone.

So those are some of the things I stumbled upon that I really like. Hope you enjoy them too.

I wanted to get started on shooting my giant loot from my shopping spree with Tiffany the other day. But my dog Bonnie, who’s afraid of cameras, has been acting really strange and scared today and I don’t want to freak her out.  I do plan on doing that though, if I can keep her out of my room.

Anyway, til then…
