Photo Diary – Sleeping Beauty

Hey!

I’m alive! With a brand new computer! (Thank you Grizz <3)

I have entries planned and I think I can finally start editing and posting them! In the meantime, the lovely Dolce Vita and I collaborated again and made something beautiful. I recently upgraded my camera and I was dying to shoot again.

Here it is!

Battle of the Liquid Lips

Hey friends!

I know I disappeared again. Let’s not talk about it.

Over the summer, I talked about these lip colors from Wet N Wild. I did swatches and reviews of each color that I had. You might know, that liquid lipsticks became a game changer in my makeup life. Before then I didn’t wear lipstick because I had the tendency to rub my lips together and rub them off very quickly. Since then, I have tripled my lipstick collection and I wanted to talk about the other ones I got and how they compare to the Megalast Liquid Lips.

For awhile I was content with my six shades I had until… I saw an Instagram video of the Wet N Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuits. The colors available were so stunning that I was on a hunt for them. I ended up with another six shades when all was said and done.

Since I’m being as lazy as humanly possible doing this post, above is the my collection from that line. I have Nudie Patootie, Rebel Rose, Pink Really Hard, Coral Corruption, Give Me Mocha, and Goth Topic. As it says in my pictured Instagram post, I don’t like Nudie Patootie. It doesn’t work with my skin tone. I’m pale so this color just makes me look like a corpse. I love all the other colors though.

So, if you recall I mentioned the Megalasts are definitely long-wearing. However, if you do need to reapply, you  need to be very careful as they do get clumpy. But they don’t transfer and they don’t fade quickly so you may not even need to.

Well. The Catsuits work a bit differently. I will say this. They are not as long-wearing even though they’re technically part of the MegaLast line. They’ll last for awhile but they do fade, and their weakness is totally food and drink. The trade-off here is that they reapply really well. When you go to touch them up, they don’t go on clumpy and they’re nice and even. I almost kind of prefer that. Not sure why. The color selection is this line is amazing too. There’s a good range of color between nude to bold to choose from. I think they are only a dollar more than the original Megalasts which still puts them around $4.

Next up, I really wanted to try the liquid lips by ColorPop. I found a mini set of the Ultra Matte Lips called “Foxy” for $18. If I’m being completely honest, I would not buy a mini box set again because they are really tiny for what you pay. Especially considering a full sized one is like $5 (maybe 6?) so you might as well just buy the full sized ones. The set came with 5 mini Ultra Matte Lips.

I have Clueless, Tulle, Creeper, More Better, and Beeper, as it says above. All of them are really pretty colors. But I think Tulle is pretty close to Give Me Mocha from the Catsuits so I usually reach for Give Me Mocha instead. I love Clueless as a natural lip and I would totally buy the full size if I run out. The minis are difficult to work with because the wand is so small. I added all of these to my “emergency makeup kit” which is the upside of having the minis. More Better is really unique, and is what drew me to the set to begin with. I would definitely look into getting more of these in the future, maybe not right now. The formula seems to have the best of both worlds from my two different Wet N Wild ones. They’re quite long-wearing, but they also reapply smoothly. Some colors passed the kiss transfer test and some didn’t, I don’t really remember which ones were which.

And now it’s time for me to disappear into the night for another two months. I mean, I’m really going to try not to, but we all know I will.

What’s your favorite affordable liquid lipstick?

By Why This Is (More or Less) a Beauty Blog

When I started blogging, way back when, I started for many reasons. I used to be an aspiring web designer, so it was another way to be connected to the internet. I suffered from anxiety problems and I wanted a way to vent once in awhile. Many of my real life friends didn’t follow my blogs, so it was a nice way to talk about things I didn’t want to bother my friends with.

While I still struggle with issues with anxiety, my days of posting anything and everything about my life are over. There’s something to be said about venting to strangers, but at the end of the day, that’s not me anymore.

It’s probably a good thing. I used to be an extremely negative person. I’ve come a long way since then. Now, when I blog, I just like to share things I’ve found or that I like. But I’ve noticed that I tend to post a lot about beauty on here. I don’t know who I have as followers at this point, hell, I don’t know if anyone even comes back to read my posts. And that’s fine. I am still going to blog, because I like it and I’ve always liked it. It’s not about collecting followers to me, I’d probably still blog if no one read it.

But if you want to know why it’s very beauty heavy these days- here’s why. Makeup has without a doubt become my hobby. When my hobby, photography became my day job, it became less and less a hobby every day. I tried to avoid it at first. I tried to do a photo diary so I could still work on my own personal photos outside of work. I’m not saying I hate it now, because that’s not true at all. I still LOVE photography. Nothing compares to the overwhelming feeling of pride and happiness I feel when I create a photograph from start to finish. From the concept to the final edited product. And I probably will once in awhile get the urge to create a piece. But plain and simple, it doesn’t feel like a hobby anymore. I never wanted that to happen, but it’s okay that it did. I love what I do, I just don’t always enjoy doing it “just for fun” anymore.

What do I like to do for fun? Watch makeup videos. Practicing different looks. Practicing different techniques. I love the versatility of makeup; how I can do a subtle look one day and turn around the next day and do a full glam look if I want. I’ve gotten better over the past few years and it’s just fun for me.

I’ve stopped doing my makeup every morning for work, but sometimes if I have the day off I’ll do a makeup look even if I’m not going anywhere. In fact, if I’m not going anywhere it’s the perfect time to practice something new!

I love blogging. I love makeup. I love blogging about makeup. I’ll still stand by the fact that this blog will just be about whatever I feel like talking about from makeup to gaming to photography to music… But most days, I feel like talking about makeup.

So that’s why you’ve seen a lot of “beauty guru Jessa” over the past few months. She’s probably here to stay, at least for awhile.

I’m not sure why I felt the need to make a whole post about this? I don’t know, I just haven’t written in awhile and I wanted to, I guess.

What would you like to see more of on here? Do you care? 😁

2017, Here I Come

Oh 2016. The year that took way too many celebrities. Including my goblin king. 😦

We certainly are happy to see you go, 2016.

For me personally, 2016 wasn’t all bad. After months of waiting Grizz and I finally bought our house this year so that was pretty awesome. And NYE was great as always. It was actually super relaxing to be able to ring in the new year with my close friends. I love them all and they make my heart happy. ❤

Last year, (I think) I broke my habit of not making New Year’s resolutions and made five. I only kept one. I promised myself anytime I would buy new clothes I would donate others that I don’t use. And while I didn’t do a whole hell of a lot of clothes shopping this year, I did that. The only exception is when I bought a set of cardigans, mainly for work. Because I really needed those. But I’m putting together a Good Will box, mostly with toys and stuffed animals, but clothes as well. So I’ll be making up for that anyway.

I had also promised myself to designate time to practice Photoshop, be more organized, and be better about cleaning, and blog more.  The Photoshop thing happened at first, but once my winter break was over, it went out the window. And everything else, I was just kidding myself. I mean, I’ll try again with that stuff but my main goals for this year are a little more vain. I mean, they may seem that way.

I’ve learned a lot about makeup over that past few years, and I’ve definitely branched out from where I started. My goal is to save money and treat myself to more high end products. Actually my goal is to be better about saving money in general. For one thing, this time next year I want to feel better about the winter break. So I want to  make an effort to really save enough to help supplement during that time. But also, I want to be able to really work on a wardrobe that suits me. A few years ago, I wanted to start following a pastel goth style and I never really did. But starting now I want to really involve myself in making my style be what I want it to be. Albeit, it’s probably not really pastel goth I want to chase anymore. I just want a style that outwardly reflects my personality. I just want to learn how to really be me, inside and out.
I really wish I took the time to photograph my look for NYE. I did a pretty eye look that turned out amazing. Maybe I’ll recreate it for something.

My photo goals are still the same. I would really like be great at Photoshop and work on shooting projects for myself. All that stuff has been neglected so I really want to take some time to practice my skills again.

As for blogging more, it is what it is.  I don’t think I’ll ever be a frequent blogger. So. That’s fine.

Anyway. How was your year? Are you happy it’s over? What did you do for NYE?

P.S. Are you interested at all in what I got for Christmas? Those kinds of things seem kind of braggy, but if anyone wants to see, I would do it. Lots of Pokemon related things happened.

The Elusive Wet N Wild Rainbow Highlight

Hey! Hello! I’m trying to do the blogging thing now that I’m not working, but with the holidays coming up (and the fact that we’re hosting 3 of 4 parties) it’s been hard to do/come up with stuff.

I was going to do this differently. There were going to be swatches. But I think it might be difficult to do. Now instead, it’s just a quick review. Well anyway.

Remember on Instagram when everyone was going crazy for the rainbow highlight? There were videos of people dipping it into their brushes and then you can see the rainbow powder on your brush? Yeah, those. They were magical. They were impossible to acquire. They were expensive. Well, Wet N Wild Beauty jumped on that cash train and made their own. I see after another Instagram search that many brands are creating their own. That’s really cool.
But one super awesome thing about Wet N Wild is their price point. Beauty on a budget is my game and they’re the best at it, in my opinion. So their rainbow highlight is a whopping $5.

It’s no wonder these FLEW off the virtual shelf. That’s right, an online exclusive. Every time they updated their Instagram to say they were back in stock, they’d be gone by the time I got to it. So it took awhile but I finally snagged it.

I wanted to give this a fair shot before I came on here to review it, because it wasn’t all that impressive at first. So I’ve worn it a few times. So I think I have a nice fair opinion of it now. I’ve worn it on my bare skin, I’ve worn it with a primer, I’ve worn it with foundation.

I will say this much, if you are expecting this to be “BAM, rainbow on my face!” you will be disappointed. I’ll admit, I was at first. But if you really think about the practicality of wearing a straight up rainbow on your face, it’s probably a good thing.  My goal in life is to be a rainbow, so I guess I forget sometimes that you can’t walk around with a rainbow on your cheekbones. Anyway, if you dig deep enough you can do that cool thing with the rainbow powder on your brush. But you probably don’t want to dig around in your highlight for days.

Now as a highlight itself, this is a really great product. I’ve always heard good things about their color icon blushes and highlights and this lives up to it. So, girl, if you want your highlight to be seen from the heavens, this will do it. If you want a subtle rainbow pigment to your highlight,  you can make it happen but it requires digging and scraping, and that’s just too much.

But overall, I give it two thumbs up. It definitely works well as bright highlight, so if you wanna glow it will do the trick for sure. If you want to be a rainbow, I’d look at other options.

Be sure to follow my Instagram if you’re into this blog. Because, what I lack in keeping up with blogging, I make up for in posting makeup and dog and cat photos on Instagram.

Photo Diary: Illumination at the Morton Arboretum

Last weekend Grizz and I doubled with our friends and went to this really cool tree light festival at an arboretum. I had an opportunity to play with my Lensbaby which is a super fun lens, impractical that it may be. It has little magnetic aperture disks that turn lights into cool shapes and it’s super perfect for Christmas lights because you get a lot of small shapes.

I took it off and tried to get some other photos too but I didn’t really get that many. I think it’s more fun to experience than to photograph. I left a gallery below. The ones that are hearts are all actually lights on the trees, you just can’t see the trees because it makes everything else blurry, and of course it was nighttime and I wasn’t using a flash. I still need to get the hang of the lens so I can potentially use it do more practical things… we’ll see. I never really get much time to play with it.

My layoff season at work is coming. My last day of work for the season is on Friday. So after that I’ll have a lot of time to update this blog. I’m going to work on reviewing Wet n Wild Beauty’s rainbow highlighter. I just got it and I was super excited to try it out. I’ve used it a couple times and I have a few things to say. That should be coming later on this week, actually.

I know I said I would review and swatch the Morphe x KathleenLights eyeshadow palette, but I feel like I’ve taken too long and the moment’s passed. But if people are still interested, I will still do it.

For now, enjoy the photos!

How’s your Christmas shopping coming along?

Moving, Weddings, And a Cat’s Stupid Adventure

I’m long overdue for a post. The reason I’ve been away for so long is because….

Grizz and I bought a house! It finally happened. We waited a long time to get this house, but we’re finally in.
We’ve been busy getting things in order and it’s coming along. I have things I want to blog about, and I’m really excited because I have a studio now, so I’ll have room to shoot photos for things. It’s my goal now that I have the extra shooting space to plan more Outfit of the Day things. I even may do the holiday look book again, although I may try and do it a little differently. The wig collection is something I’m finally going to be able to get started on.

We were also busy with his sister’s wedding. Which was incredibly cool to be a part of it. It even ended up making the news! They got married on a moving “L” train in Chicago. It caught fire with the news, the even went on live TV!
Here’s one of the articles and the interview with Windy City Live is at the bottom of it.

I’m like, hey, I know them! ^_^

We threw a couple of parties here already, which is so exciting now that we have the room for it. Grizz’s birthday is coming up and we’ve been having an unseasonably warm fall, so we’re having another party that hopefully we’ll get to have a fire. 🙂

We have a few things we’re not used to having to do all the time, like double checking our doors. Last night our back door was not only unlocked, but as Grizz discovered when he got up for work this morning, it wasn’t even latched. The door was wide open for who knows how long. My first instinct was to jump up and look for Demon, our cat, who’s been obsessed with trying to sneak out whenever the door is open. As I expected, he was nowhere to be found. Grizz was already looking outside for him. I went down the block but didn’t see him. I was so heartbroken, and I remember shutting off the lights in the kitchen but I didn’t check the door so naturally I was blaming myself. And I was so worried about him. He’s so dark so he’d be hard for people driving in cars to see…
As we were admitting defeat and heading inside, something told me to ask Grizz to shine his flashlight under the deck. When he did, there was a set of glowing eyes looking at us. Luckily for us, he’s very food driven. So opening his can of cat food was all we needed to do to coax him out.

Stupid cat. Scared the shit out of me. I’m really glad that he didn’t get that far. I suppose if anything this whole experience will make me obsessed with checking to make sure the doors are locked.
I don’t even like cats… how did this little jerk claw his way into my heart?  It’s also been a small challenge trying to get him to get along with our dog, Eva. She’s used to cats because she’s lived with them almost her whole life. So she really doesn’t care at all about Demon. Like, she’s far to busy begging people to throw her ball and climbing into everyone’s lap even though she is far too big to be a lap dog. Demon, however, has never seen a dog. So, he took a bit longer to adjust. He’s still not a huge fan of her, but they coexist. And they’ll both snuggle me, so that’s all I wanted out of the whole arrangement.

Yay!

A post shared by 🍂Jessa🌼 (@softlysaturated) on

So that’s what’s been going on lately.

I want to get back on track blogging-wise so I’m trying to plan simple things I can do for right now.
I think the next thing I do will be a makeup thing. I ordered an eyeshadow palette that was a collaboration with Morphe and KathleenLights on YouTube. I’ve been wanting to buy a YouTube collab, but this was the first one that was affordable so I went for it. It should be here Friday so I think I’m going to do a first impression or something like that over the weekend.  I literally just found out (like, I’m watching her October favorites right now and she JUST said) it’s sold out already. It released a week ago and it’s limited edition and it’s already gone. I’m glad I got it right away. It’s kind of the reason I want to do a lookbook again because I’m already thinking of cute holiday makeup looks.

Anyway, I think that’s it for me. I’ll talk again soon. 🙂
Hopefully everyone had a safe and fun Halloween!

What did you dress up as?
