By Why This Is (More or Less) a Beauty Blog

When I started blogging, way back when, I started for many reasons. I used to be an aspiring web designer, so it was another way to be connected to the internet. I suffered from anxiety problems and I wanted a way to vent once in awhile. Many of my real life friends didn’t follow my blogs, so it was a nice way to talk about things I didn’t want to bother my friends with.

While I still struggle with issues with anxiety, my days of posting anything and everything about my life are over. There’s something to be said about venting to strangers, but at the end of the day, that’s not me anymore.

It’s probably a good thing. I used to be an extremely negative person. I’ve come a long way since then. Now, when I blog, I just like to share things I’ve found or that I like. But I’ve noticed that I tend to post a lot about beauty on here. I don’t know who I have as followers at this point, hell, I don’t know if anyone even comes back to read my posts. And that’s fine. I am still going to blog, because I like it and I’ve always liked it. It’s not about collecting followers to me, I’d probably still blog if no one read it.

But if you want to know why it’s very beauty heavy these days- here’s why. Makeup has without a doubt become my hobby. When my hobby, photography became my day job, it became less and less a hobby every day. I tried to avoid it at first. I tried to do a photo diary so I could still work on my own personal photos outside of work. I’m not saying I hate it now, because that’s not true at all. I still LOVE photography. Nothing compares to the overwhelming feeling of pride and happiness I feel when I create a photograph from start to finish. From the concept to the final edited product. And I probably will once in awhile get the urge to create a piece. But plain and simple, it doesn’t feel like a hobby anymore. I never wanted that to happen, but it’s okay that it did. I love what I do, I just don’t always enjoy doing it “just for fun” anymore.

What do I like to do for fun? Watch makeup videos. Practicing different looks. Practicing different techniques. I love the versatility of makeup; how I can do a subtle look one day and turn around the next day and do a full glam look if I want. I’ve gotten better over the past few years and it’s just fun for me.

I’ve stopped doing my makeup every morning for work, but sometimes if I have the day off I’ll do a makeup look even if I’m not going anywhere. In fact, if I’m not going anywhere it’s the perfect time to practice something new!

I love blogging. I love makeup. I love blogging about makeup. I’ll still stand by the fact that this blog will just be about whatever I feel like talking about from makeup to gaming to photography to music… But most days, I feel like talking about makeup.

So that’s why you’ve seen a lot of “beauty guru Jessa” over the past few months. She’s probably here to stay, at least for awhile.

I’m not sure why I felt the need to make a whole post about this? I don’t know, I just haven’t written in awhile and I wanted to, I guess.

What would you like to see more of on here? Do you care? 😁

Moving, Weddings, And a Cat’s Stupid Adventure

I’m long overdue for a post. The reason I’ve been away for so long is because….

Grizz and I bought a house! It finally happened. We waited a long time to get this house, but we’re finally in.
We’ve been busy getting things in order and it’s coming along. I have things I want to blog about, and I’m really excited because I have a studio now, so I’ll have room to shoot photos for things. It’s my goal now that I have the extra shooting space to plan more Outfit of the Day things. I even may do the holiday look book again, although I may try and do it a little differently. The wig collection is something I’m finally going to be able to get started on.

We were also busy with his sister’s wedding. Which was incredibly cool to be a part of it. It even ended up making the news! They got married on a moving “L” train in Chicago. It caught fire with the news, the even went on live TV!
Here’s one of the articles and the interview with Windy City Live is at the bottom of it.

I’m like, hey, I know them! ^_^

We threw a couple of parties here already, which is so exciting now that we have the room for it. Grizz’s birthday is coming up and we’ve been having an unseasonably warm fall, so we’re having another party that hopefully we’ll get to have a fire. 🙂

We have a few things we’re not used to having to do all the time, like double checking our doors. Last night our back door was not only unlocked, but as Grizz discovered when he got up for work this morning, it wasn’t even latched. The door was wide open for who knows how long. My first instinct was to jump up and look for Demon, our cat, who’s been obsessed with trying to sneak out whenever the door is open. As I expected, he was nowhere to be found. Grizz was already looking outside for him. I went down the block but didn’t see him. I was so heartbroken, and I remember shutting off the lights in the kitchen but I didn’t check the door so naturally I was blaming myself. And I was so worried about him. He’s so dark so he’d be hard for people driving in cars to see…
As we were admitting defeat and heading inside, something told me to ask Grizz to shine his flashlight under the deck. When he did, there was a set of glowing eyes looking at us. Luckily for us, he’s very food driven. So opening his can of cat food was all we needed to do to coax him out.

Stupid cat. Scared the shit out of me. I’m really glad that he didn’t get that far. I suppose if anything this whole experience will make me obsessed with checking to make sure the doors are locked.
I don’t even like cats… how did this little jerk claw his way into my heart?  It’s also been a small challenge trying to get him to get along with our dog, Eva. She’s used to cats because she’s lived with them almost her whole life. So she really doesn’t care at all about Demon. Like, she’s far to busy begging people to throw her ball and climbing into everyone’s lap even though she is far too big to be a lap dog. Demon, however, has never seen a dog. So, he took a bit longer to adjust. He’s still not a huge fan of her, but they coexist. And they’ll both snuggle me, so that’s all I wanted out of the whole arrangement.

Yay!

So that’s what’s been going on lately.

I want to get back on track blogging-wise so I’m trying to plan simple things I can do for right now.
I think the next thing I do will be a makeup thing. I ordered an eyeshadow palette that was a collaboration with Morphe and KathleenLights on YouTube. I’ve been wanting to buy a YouTube collab, but this was the first one that was affordable so I went for it. It should be here Friday so I think I’m going to do a first impression or something like that over the weekend.  I literally just found out (like, I’m watching her October favorites right now and she JUST said) it’s sold out already. It released a week ago and it’s limited edition and it’s already gone. I’m glad I got it right away. It’s kind of the reason I want to do a lookbook again because I’m already thinking of cute holiday makeup looks.

Anyway, I think that’s it for me. I’ll talk again soon. 🙂
Hopefully everyone had a safe and fun Halloween!

What did you dress up as?

Life Update, Blog Agenda

I think every once in awhile, I just need to do one of these so ya’ll know I’m alive. I know I just spewed out a post a few days ago, and I do have a few more in the works. So I’ll talk a little bit about the plan there. I feel like every so often I just wanna talk about what’s new with me. I try not to do these too often, as my old blog was over-filled with crap like that.

Work’s been keeping me as busy as a bee since summer, which is fantastic. I completed my first year doing underclass photography and other things like sports, dances, commencements, and communions which meant I could finally move on to senior photography. I can’t tell you  how much I’ve learned in a month’s span – it’s insane. I learned so much about lighting, posing, settings, and just straight up human interaction. It’s been a blast. Moving on from the factory made, cookie cutter school photography to a full on senior studio session has been a real eye opener and a game changer! I loved my job to start with, but this summer – fall, I’ve felt like a REAL photographer and I couldn’t be happier. While fall was in full swing, my schedule had been pretty hectic so off course I fell off the grid a little. With all that going on, Grizz and I haven’t even done much in the way of wedding planning. We’ve got some time since we’re shooting for June 2017, but still we’ve gotta get a move on with that.

But all the while, I’d have ideas for blogs buzzing in my brain. Anytime I came up with an idea I saved a draft of it so I would remember what it was.

Now I have a few things queued up for when our winter break comes into play.

I’ve been meaning to do another CD review since I got the latest from Breaking Benjamin, I’ve talked a little bit about doing a photo tour of my desk and possibly my dresser. I don’t know if people would be more interested in a room tour or apartment tour altogether, but I think I could do that instead. I haven’t really decided there, because we’d have to do some cleaning. Maybe at least a room tour? I don’t know.

Then there was  the time Grizz and I made coasters using yard sale floppy disks and little rubber feet. That’s pretty much all there is to it, but I figured I’d share some photos.
Then, I really want to do a wig collection post, but I figured I’d do that after Christmas, in case I get any more wigs as a gift.

Also, awhile back I talked about a D&D inspired photo project. I still really want to do that but I think it’s gonna take a lot of work and I probably won’t do anything with it until Spring since I need some good weather. Maybe a couple of them could be done in the winter. At any rate, that process is going to take a while.

On another note, Grizz has been wanting to make a cooking channel on YouTube, so I think we’re going to work on that as well. And of course I’ll be posting them up on here.

On top of all that, we’re gonna be moving. Our lease is up at the end of January, and we decided that it’s time to move out on our own now that we’re engaged. We really want to have our own place and our own life, so we’ll be looking hard core pretty soon.

So that’s pretty much what’s going on and that’s the plan for future posts. I’ll have a little bit of downtime to work on a few projects, and that’s what I’ll do.

Some News And Things

I’m posting a photo shoot later in a few minutes, but I wanted to pop in to say hello to my readers and to talk about a few blog housekeeping things. I know, super boring.

I’ve been super busy with work! My company is doing a lot of stuff to tie up the end of this school year. So there’s a lot of proms, spring and grads, retakes, communions, candids, etc coming up. On the side, Miss Dolce Vita and I have been teaming up to try and launch our side business. So we’ve recently had a boudoir shoot for an old friend of ours. I’ve spent some time editing and uploading those. And Katie (Dolce Vita) is competing in a pin up competition, so I’ve been working diligently on promotional photos for her.

So, once again, I’ve been kind of neglecting the blog. Trust me though, if you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you’ll get snippets of my daily life. I’d highly recommend it.

Since I really do enjoy blogging about everyday things, or makeup or whatever else I’m going to be keeping this blog. However I’ll be trying to keep my more boudoir/lingerie/risque stuff separate from this. I am working on another blog solely for my clients to view their photos and download from there. When that goes live, I’ll be sharing it with you guys! Bear in mind these will be more PG-13 photos.

I’ll still be posting Photo Diary stuff here, and more tame sessions.

And stay tuned, because I am in the process of posting my latest pin-up session with Katie for Miss Motoblot!

Goals, Photo Ideas, And More

I know over the past month I’ve been posting way more often. Now that schools are back in session, my day job will be consuming with with graduate and spring photos. The transition has been pretty gradual so far. I only have three shoots this week and three next week as well. It’s going to be fantastic to finally get back to work. I really like my job and I also missed having a nice steady cash flow. (In other job-related news, I still have insane bouts of anxiety before going to work every morning but I’m really hoping that once I’ve gone full circle and learned everything at least once, it’ll subside.)
But going back to work full time will eventually mean this blog will get neglected from time to time. Before that happens, while I’m still kind of on a part time schedule, I’ll be doing a few things.

One thing I’ve decided the other day while photo ideas were consuming me (while I was trying to sleep, of course) is to start collecting wigs. So far, I own one wig – which I think I’ve talked to you about. I was thinking, sometimes I have an idea but I don’t have the time/energy/social skills to get someone to model for me. So if I want to look the part for some of my own photos, I can simply change my hair with wigs! Plus I think they’d be super awesome to wear to cons. I found one that I’m absolutely in love with, and I’ll link it at the end.
Going along with that I want to create a look/personality for “Jessamine” for Cons and things like that. I don’t know if that’s weird… dressing up as a character of your own creation. But oh well. It is what it is. It will all start when I find the perfect wig for her. I’ve been thinking the one I mentioned above (and will link to later) would be a really good fit.

Semi-related to all that is, I will be attending as many cons as I can to photograph. As I mentioned before, I’ll be going to Anime Central this year. But my other goal if nothing else is to go to Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo. (C2E2, if you prefer) Last time I went, I was working on a photo project for school. It’ll be great to photograph just for fun this time.

Another thing that I could potentially be working on is a YouTube channel. Not mine, I am sticking to blogging for a good long while. But for a friend of mine, Katie. I’ve known her since we were 3. She wants to do makeup tutorials, recipes, and vlogging in general. So at some point I’ll be helping her get the channel off the ground. Meanwhile, she’ll be helping me a lot with my fashion photography as she did a lot of performing and such so she’s very good at modeling and the like.

The last upcoming thing is a little mini photo project I want to work on. The idea came to me driving home one day, listening to “Reflection” from Mulan. I don’t want to go into too much detail about that, because I’ll be shooting it this over the weekend- so it won’t be long before you see it. But yeah, that’ll be a thing…

Aaaaaaaaand I think that’s it. Those of you who actually subscribe and read, I’m really happy you do and I can only hope I can keep things interesting on here. 😀

Wow, I Suck at This

This whole moving out and doing grown up things has really made me bad at keeping up with my blog. I promise I am putting together recipes for my next post. But I feel like I keep going too long between posts. So, in the meantime, here’s my roomie’s new cat trying to catch the blinking light on my laptop. Because he’s a nutball.

And I was in a few of my friend’s Diablo streams that I was talking about. I’m going to add the link to his stream as a dropdown option on Gamerz Corner until he starts uploading them to YouTube. Then I’ll be embedding them here.

We Got Approved! And Other Stuff.

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulder.  We finally got approved for an apartment!  We can move in less than a month! It’s just nice to have one less thing to worry about. Now I just have to start packing. And I’m really hoping James and I can fit all our stuff in our one room. (It’s the one I talked about in my last update about this)

So, if anyone is interested I’ll do a tour photoblog but it’s not super exciting. It’s really not fancy, it’s just a regular ol’ two bedroom apartment.  But it is the first time I’m leaving my parents’ home, so it’s exciting to me.

I just wanted to pop on here and share my exciting news! Yay!

And I have a few things coming up.

Next weekend I’ll be seeing Rocky Horror Picture Show for the first time ever! And I have an awesome outfit planned for that I’ll be sharing. I even bought a wig. So I might talk a bit about that if it works out well.

And tomorrow I’ll be shopping with Tiffany.  I’m kind of doing a “last hurrah” sort of shopping spree. Once I move out I’m going to save, save, save as much as I possibly can. So I’m allowing myself to splurge a little bit tomorrow on things for my pastel/boho goth style.  I think I’m going to concentrate a bit on tops and accessories. I’ll possibly do a haul photoblog on what I end up buying if that’s something people are interested in.

Also, I know I did a Fall Playlist post, so I think I want to do a winter one as well.

And lastly,  I’ve been collecting random other blog articles that I find interesting so I will be putting together a post with links to those.  I’ll probably do that within the next few days.

So those are the things I’ll be talking about over the next few weeks. Plus once roller derby starts up again, I’ll have more photography to post.
