Photo Diary – Bisexual Visibility Day

Hey everyone, I know this is a few days late. I didn’t really have time to post/I also didn’t want to spam posts constantly all weekend. Today I’m posting the one photo that I skipped a couple weeks ago, the theme being “You”. I’m not really sure what happened to it, something in syncing this photo messed it up? I had a different thing in mind but it failed, so I ended up using this one. I felt that it would go hand in hand with the next one I’m posting. Saturday was Bisexual Visibility day. I decided to post an overlay I created over the photo of me from before because I am bisexual. I wanted to share a little of my coming out story to demonstrate why Bi Visibility is so important. I didn’t really know I was bisexual until over the past like year or so,maybe longer. In fact, I don’t necessarily think I always have been, even though I probably have been for longer than I’ve realized. Because of the fact that I felt I wasn’t “born this way” I didn’t feel like a valid member of the LGBT community. Like, maybe I was going through a phase or something. It took a lot of soul searching and lot of reading on bi communities before I was comfortable saying it out loud. It took awhile for me to realize that sexuality is fluid. Just because I never thought of women in that way in the past doesn’t change what I feel right now. Before I figured all that out, I was afraid to say I was bi because I was afraid I wouldn’t be taken seriously by either gay or straight or otherwise people. While I’ve yet to actually encounter that, I know that bi erasure is a problem in the LGBT community, and that’s not okay. So I’m just here to say if you are bi or pan or otherwise, you are real, you are valid, and you do matter. Love you. ♥

Photo Diary – Owasippe Camping Trip 2017

Hello all! I’m uploading my entire batch of photos from my camping trip last weekend! Honestly, some I’ve edited and some I didn’t bother to. You can click on any of them to make them larger and click through the full images. I’m putting them all in thumbnail form so this post doesn’t get too bogged down.

But anyway, I had an amazing time with my friends and I can’t wait to go back!

Photo Diary – A New 365

I started a 365 Photo a Day project again. I never stick to anything I start but we’ll see how it goes. I found prompts for the next few months to help out. In October I will be doing “Photober” (you like it? I made that up.) while my friend does Drawloween! Here’s the first week of photos. I post them every day to my Instagram so be sure to follow me there. I’ll try to remember to post a batch every week here. If you are following my Instagram, there might be lag in photos over the weekend as I will be in Alabama to visit my brother. If I use my phone to take the photos I’ll post them right away, but if I use my camera I can’t upload until Monday night as I don’t have a laptop anymore.

If you want to participate in “Photober” with me, here’s the list I’m using!

Photo Diary: By The Light

When inspiration hits you while you’re helping your lovey fix your car, you just have to roll with it. I wanted to play with the natural source of light available, which in this case was one of those portable work lights and the light from the garage. Mechanic-

Since I can push the ISO a little more on my new camera I was able to pull this off with as little noise as possible.

As far as enhancing the photo in shop, I really only messed with the light source and added some smoke for dramatic effect. I think it turned out cool for a spur of the moment shot.

Photo Diary: Illumination at the Morton Arboretum

Last weekend Grizz and I doubled with our friends and went to this really cool tree light festival at an arboretum. I had an opportunity to play with my Lensbaby which is a super fun lens, impractical that it may be. It has little magnetic aperture disks that turn lights into cool shapes and it’s super perfect for Christmas lights because you get a lot of small shapes.

I took it off and tried to get some other photos too but I didn’t really get that many. I think it’s more fun to experience than to photograph. I left a gallery below. The ones that are hearts are all actually lights on the trees, you just can’t see the trees because it makes everything else blurry, and of course it was nighttime and I wasn’t using a flash. I still need to get the hang of the lens so I can potentially use it do more practical things… we’ll see. I never really get much time to play with it.

My layoff season at work is coming. My last day of work for the season is on Friday. So after that I’ll have a lot of time to update this blog. I’m going to work on reviewing Wet n Wild Beauty’s rainbow highlighter. I just got it and I was super excited to try it out. I’ve used it a couple times and I have a few things to say. That should be coming later on this week, actually.

I know I said I would review and swatch the Morphe x KathleenLights eyeshadow palette, but I feel like I’ve taken too long and the moment’s passed. But if people are still interested, I will still do it.

For now, enjoy the photos!

How’s your Christmas shopping coming along?

Photo Diary: This Heart

This week Grizz challenged me to use selective color (something that is very outdated and often used poorly) to tell a story. While I failed to get my point across I still ended up with something I’m pretty happy with so I decided to share.

I’d like to thank my sister for the assist with this, it was a lot of me setting up the shot and having her take the photo over and over again until it was right. I ended up with a couple other ones but I like this one the most. For some reason I’m having a hard time articulating this one… so I’m just gonna leave you to feel whatever you feel about it.

A lot of the time I’m so consumed with my day job that I don’t take the time to shoot or edit for me, so it’s nice to have Grizz challenge me to do something. Plus Phlearn on Instagram has a contest every week so if I feel inspired by it I try to enter.

P.S. I have a couple ideas in the works for posts, it just may be a bit before I get to them. And I did not forget about my wig collection. I’m just slowly collecting photos of them instead of actively trying to shoot it. And my birthday is coming up, so who knows I may get more. Thinking about a photo tutorial of my rainbow eyeshadow look also.

Con Plans for 2016 & Photo Diary: Alter Ego

With Anime Central just around the corner, it won’t be long before my social media fills up with upcoming cosplay plans. I figured now would be the perfect plans to address my plans for up and coming conventions in the Chicagoland area.  Sometime last year, I decided my ultimate photo goal would be to shoot cosplay professionally and make super awesome photo manipulations to go with it. One year later, I have not really moved very far forward in that goal. I love what I do right now, and I’m comfortable. My friend from work came up with a super awesome plan to start his own cosplay photo booth to set up at conventions. And he pulled aside me and a couple other friends from work who love to cosplay as well to see if we wanted to dress up and model for him so he can put out some adverts. And additionally, if he did set up a booth, we would be allowed free passes as well to dress up and wander around cons to send people his way. I think this would be a fantastic way to get a foot in the door for my goals, and I couldn’t wait to get photos take of my own costumes, so I jumped at this chance. I think we need to generate more interest, and the cost of a booth is not cheap so we need a way to get a good buzz going. But my photo session was several weeks ago now and I ADORE how they came out. I’ll post the gallery at the end of this post.

Meanwhile. Here’s the plan. Anime Central falls during a horribly busy time for my job, so it’s really hard to get time off for it. As it is right now, I work on the Friday and Saturday. I was really bummed about Saturday because my friends and I wanted to go to the formal dance they have. But alas, I have to work a graduation and OF COURSE it’s at night instead of in the morning. >.< It’s looking like I’m off that Sunday, so if money allows, I want to try to make it that day. (Being in the process of buying a house kind of means making sure your money doesn’t go anywhere haha) If we do make it Sunday, I will not be photographing that day. I just wanna run around in a simple costume and enjoy what’s left of the con. So I will probably throw together a Pokemon trainer costume and do just that. I am, however, helping a friend who’s new to this whole scene work out her first cosplay. She’s going as Kurisu from Steins Gate. I have the perfect wig for her so I’m working on getting that detangled and ready to go for her. Her boyfriend, who is introducing her to the scene is going as Rintarou and I’ll be helping him find a good wig for that. So, I’m living through my friends this time around. I think as soon as I find out the dates next year I’m going to try and put in the time off right away. I just feel bad for being unavailable during one of our busiest seasons.

Next, is my holy holiday with my friends, Bristol Renaissance Fair, which is in July. We won’t be going opening day, but still that Sunday. I’ll be doing my typical Dragon Trainer costume that I’ve been building upon for years. I’m actually going to be making my first attempt at styling a wig for that. Usually I just buy the wig I need, and most of the characters I do have pretty simplistic styles so I never need to do anything to them. I want to create a pretty Renaissance style braided look. I might even cut it. We’ll see. I figured, it’s the one I like the least, so if I ruin it I won’t be TOO sad. There’s plenty of wigs I could wear for the costume instead, and if I fail I can get one for next year that’s already styled or something.
At some point we’ll be going a second time so I’ll shoot then. I don’t know exactly when we’ll do that but I think it’ll be August.

And… we’re going to Wizard World, probably around the same time we make our second trip to the Fair.  If I don’t cosplay that day, I will definitely shoot. But Wizard World isn’t as exciting as say, C2E2, which I missed this year and hopefully I can make it next year, even if it’s the only con I get to go to.

So, those are my costume/photo plans for this year. Not as action packed as I would like, but hopefully one day I can turn that around and be able to work these cons as a photographer.

Now, here’s the gallery of photos my friend from work took of me. I have a Pokemon trainer set, which I’ll post some other time. This set is my alter ego, Jessamine, who’s back story I’ve talked about on here a few times. I like to think when I’m shooting at cons, I am her. But. Anyway. I love them. They turned out just a lovely as I’d hoped!
